Jørgen Mogensen (1927-2004)

Jørgen Mogensen trained at the Art Craftsman School in Copenhagen. During the 1950s he designed and produced ceramic vessels for Royal Copenhagen, working in their studio alongside Axel Salto, Nils Thorsson and Gerd Bogelund. His designs focused primarily on modern stylized images of birds and fish in relief and abstract patterns of impressed shapes.
In 1965, he began producing work independantly from his own studio, focusing more on abstract sculptural forms and vessels in a looser, more organic style. He produced here until the 1980s. In 1991 he retired from ceramics and focused more on painting until his death in 2004.
