Colin Pearson (1923-2007)
Studied at Goldsmiths College and trained under Ray Finch at Winchcombe Pottery. Later, in 1954 he worked at Royal Doulton.
In 1955 he took over as manager of Aylesford Pottery, Kent which David Leach had set up a year earlier. In 1961, Pearson set up the Quay Pottery at Aylesford, focusing primarily on tableware.
During his career, Colin Pearson taught studio pottery at Harrow, and well as Camberwell and Medway Schools of Art. It was during his time teaching at Camberwell that he began to explore form more intensely and developed his signature "winged form" vessels, In 1971, Pearson's individual forms in black stoneware and pale blue porcelain were shown in a major exhibition at the British Craft Centre. In the 1980s, he moved to his own studio in Islington, experimenting with various clays, glazes and firing styles.

Pearson was awarded an honorary fellowship from the University of the Arts London in 1996. His work is in the V&A collection and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
